Managing Psychological Overwhelm – The 5 Senses Reset

Overwhelmed by thoughts? Ground yourself with a 5-senses reset. The 5-Senses Reset helps shift focus from internal stress to external, calming sensory experiences:

  1. See: Look for 5 things you can visually focus on in your surroundings.
  2. Touch: Identify 4 textures you can physically feel (e.g., fabric, a smooth surface).
  3. Hear: Listen for 3 distinct sounds around you.
  4. Smell: Notice 2 scents in the air.
  5. Taste: Focus on 1 flavor or take a small sip of something refreshing.

By engaging your senses, this technique pulls your mind out of overwhelm and back into the present moment.
