Therapy for kids

Therapy for Kids

Being a kid isn’t always easy. Between school pressures, friendships, family changes, and the big emotions that come with growing up, it can be a lot for little ones to carry. When your child is struggling, it’s natural to want to help — and sometimes the best thing you can do is connect them with someone who really knows how to listen.

That’s exactly what we’re here for.

Signs Your Child Might Benefit from Therapy

Kids don’t always have the words to tell us when something is wrong. Instead, it often shows up in their behaviour, their mood, or the way they move through the world. Some things parents commonly notice include:

  • Anxiety & worry — excessive fears, nervousness, trouble separating, or physical complaints like stomachaches with no medical cause
  • Behavioural changes — increased aggression, withdrawal, defiance, or acting out in ways that feel out of character
  • School stress — difficulty concentrating, avoiding school, struggles with performance, or conflicts with teachers and peers
  • ADHD & learning difficulties — trouble with focus, impulsivity, frustration around learning, or feeling different from other kids
  • Big feelings they can’t manage — frequent emotional outbursts, meltdowns, or difficulty calming down
  • Family changes — navigating divorce, a new sibling, a move, or other transitions that have unsettled them
  • Grief & loss — processing the loss of a loved one, a pet, or a significant relationship
  • Low self-esteem — negative self-talk, withdrawal from activities they used to enjoy, or feeling like they don’t fit in

If something feels off with your child, trust that instinct. You know your child best.

How We Work with Kids

Children experience the world differently than adults — and therapy with kids looks different too. We meet children where they are, using approaches that feel natural and comfortable for them. Depending on your child’s age, personality, and what they’re working through, sessions might involve:

  • Talk therapy — age-appropriate conversation that helps kids put words to their feelings and experiences
  • Play-based approaches — using play, art, and creative expression as a natural way for children to explore and process what they’re going through
  • Skill building — teaching kids practical tools for managing emotions, navigating social situations, and building confidence
  • Storytelling & games — engaging ways to explore feelings and practice new ways of thinking and responding

Our therapists are warm, patient, and genuinely love working with kids. We create a space where your child feels safe, accepted, and never judged.

How Parents Are Involved

You are an essential part of your child’s therapy journey. While sessions are your child’s own safe space, we make sure you’re always kept in the loop in a way that supports the work being done. You can expect:

  • An initial Parent(s) only session before therapy begins to understand your child’s history, your concerns, and your goals
  • Regular check-ins to share progress, discuss strategies, and answer your questions
  • Guidance on how to support your child at home between sessions
  • Collaboration every step of the way — because what happens outside the therapy room matters just as much as what happens inside it

You don’t have to figure this out alone, and neither does your child.

What to Expect in Sessions

Your child’s first session is all about getting comfortable. There’s no pressure to open up right away — we take our time building trust, and we let your child set the pace. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and are designed to feel as relaxed and welcoming as possible.

Over time, you’ll likely start to notice shifts — in how your child talks about their feelings, how they handle hard moments, and how they see themselves.

Taking the Next Step

If you’re wondering whether therapy might help your child, we’d love to talk it through with you. Our free 15-minute connection call is a great place to start — you can ask questions, share what’s been going on, and get a feel for whether we’re the right fit for your family.
